A Few Ways That Can Help You Avoid SAD
January 27th, 2012 | Posted by in Light Therapy for Depression Information | Light Therapy for SAD InformationSAD is the abbreviation for Seasonal Affective Disorder and this usually hits the people that are in regions that have a winter season. This is usually caused by a lack of vitamin D since people mostly get their vitamin D from the sun and the sun is mostly absent in winter due to the heavy precipitation.
To overcome SAD there are a few things that you can do. First is to replace that vitamin D using other sources. You can take prescription drugs that are high in vitamin D. Although it is very recommended that you first speak with your physician before taking any kind of drug.
Another way that is safer than putting a drug in your body is by replacing the light that you are supposed to be getting from the sun. Of course you can't buy your own private sun but what you can do is you can get the next best thing and that is a Light Therapy Kit. What the light therapy kit has is a lamp that gives off a certain wavelength of light that is the same wavelength as the sun. This will replace the lost sunlight that you are supposed to be getting.
Light boxes are easy to use. You just have to direct them at yourself for a few minutes a day and you'll feel as if the sun never even left.
But you shouldn't stop the fight against SAD with just the light box. You should go out, exercise and socialize. Eat healthy meals rather than junk foods and of course get enough sleep.
If you do these things and add the light therapy for SAD into the mix then you will definitely have no problems dealing with the winter.
