Light Therapy In Your EarsMay 2nd, 2012 | Posted by in Light Therapy for Depression Information
A recent clinical trial, published in the journal Medical Hypothesis, studied therapeutic effects of bright light channeled into the human brain by way of the ear canal. The existing prototype suggests that light therapy is only effective when transmitted through the eyes but the new study has revealed that "There is no conclusive evidence that light therapy is only transmitted through the eyes. Therefore, we challenged the existing prototype by showing that the brain-targeted bright light therapy via the ear canal is an effective mechanism to relieve seasonal depression," commented Juuso Nissilä, Valkee's co-founder and chief scientist. Valkee introduced its bright-light headset in August 2010 and now has a broad user base. This study was taken place in the University of Oulu, one of the largest universities in Finland, which is an international research and innovation university engaged in multidisciplinary basic research and academic education.
